General Information
The Alacalufes unit is located in the Region of Magallanes, comprises the western archipelagos of the provinces of Ultima Esperanza and Magallanes. It was created on July 22, 1969 by Supreme Decree No. 263 of the Ministry of Agriculture.
It stands out for the protection of the species of the fauna like the red fox and the huemul deer. In marine environments, there are specimens of leopard seal, whale, Austral and Chilean dolphin. In addition they inhabit birds like the fío fío, churrín of the south and giant carpenter. As for flora, there are evergreen trees, such as the Magellan Coigue, cypress of the Güaitecas and canelo.
